Exhibit design trend Translucent Mega-Graphics 1

Do you want your custom trade show display to stand out on the exhibition floor? One exhibit design trend that can help achieve your goal is Translucent Mega-Graphics. This approach is dynamic, imposing, and eye-catching—everything you need to make sure your custom trade show exhibit design gets noticed. 3D Exhibits' Chief Creative Officer, Jeff Bartle, shares his insights:

Q: What is a Translucent Mega-Graphic?

Bartle: A Translucent Mega-Graphic is a super-sized direct print graphic applied to sheer, semi-sheer or mesh fabric. From a distance, it appears to be a very large, impressive graphic. But when you get up close, it's actually translucent. You can see through the fabric just enough to tell there is action taking place inside the exhibit.

Q: When is a Translucent Mega-Graphic an appropriate custom exhibit design trend to leverage?

Bartle: A Translucent Mega-Graphic uses scale to make a dramatic statement. It's a beautiful attract mechanism for companies who want to let everyone know they mean business. Use it to exude brand sophistication, creativity, knowhow or cool impact. A Translucent Mega-Graphic can be the perfect solution when you want to create intrigue. Visitors find themselves peering at the shadow activity they see through the wall and think, "There's something going on inside this exhibit that I want to be a part of."

Q: Any tips for effectively integrating this custom trade show exhibit design trend into an exhibit?

Bartle: Here are 6 tips on integrating Translucent Mega-Graphics into your custom trade show display design:

  1. Select an image that is simple, bold, compelling and emotional. The best images will convey energy or motion in a way that is consistent with your brand.
  2. People are going to see your image quickly and read it somewhat subliminally. Avoid graphics where understanding requires focusing on any particular part of the image—or on small details or copy. (Especially copy!) Using an image that requires that attendees stop and think—rather than something that just makes them feel—will lessen your impact substantially.
  3. Carefully compose your graphic. The way the image is laid out across the space is as important in conveying your intended emotion as the subject of the image.
  4. Be aware of the scale. When people approach their cone of vision will narrow and they'll be looking at portions of the graphic rather than the whole. These portions have to convey the same feel or emotion as the whole.
  5. Because the image will be visible from inside of your exhibit as well as from the outside, it has to look good in reverse—which is to say in mirror image. This is another reason to avoid integrating copy.
  6. Maximize impact by lighting the image well. LED lights are a great solution here. Bold theatrical lighting is another option.
